Epistemiology History and Ethnics of Medicine
Marianna Karamanou, MD, is Professor of Epistemology, History and Ethics of Medicine at the Medical School, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), Greece. She holds a diploma in History of Medicine from the Medical School, Claude Bernard University, Lyon 1, France and a PhD in History of Medicine from the History of Medicine Department, Medical School, NKUA. Currently she is Research Associate at the Institute of the Humanities in Medicine, University of Lausanne, Switzerland and Affiliated Investigator at the Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens. Her research work covers the whole spectrum of the history of medicine and all time periods. Prof. Karamanou has a special research interest in the history of medicine of 18th, 19th and 20th century. Part of her research scientific work has received national and international awards. Prof. Karamanou is member of the International Academy of the History of Pharmacy, the French Society of History of Medicine and President of the Hellenic Department of the Balkan Medical Union.
