The University, in collaboration with Aretaieio Hospital, provides free Psychological Support Services for students enrolled in the Medical Degree English Program.
These services offer a safe, confidential, and professional environment where students can openly discuss personal challenges and receive individualized psychological support.
All students of the Medical Degree English Program are eligible to access these services.
The aim of the Psychological Support Services is to promote mental well-being, assist in managing stress, and address emotional or psychological concerns that may arise during your academic journey.
Students enrolled in the Medical Degree English Program of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) may, should they wish to do so, contact the Service via email, stating their request and providing their personal details.
An initial appointment will be scheduled for the purpose of examining the request and assessing the Service’s capacity to address it. The necessity of referral for psychiatric evaluation and/or the initiation of pharmacological treatment will also be considered.
The Service may provide, through the Psychologist, short‑term supportive intervention concerning student difficulties related to their adjustment to the program, their academic performance, and their social integration in Greece. The number of sessions per student may range from one (1) to a maximum of ten (10), to be conducted within a period of five (5) months, at a frequency of two (2) sessions per month.
Requests requiring long‑term therapeutic intervention cannot be accommodated within this framework. Requests not directly related to the academic program will be addressed at a counseling and supportive level rather than through psychotherapeutic treatment. Where psychiatric intervention is deemed necessary, it shall be prioritized.
Once a student is deemed eligible for support, a confirmation email will be issued.
Confidentiality & Data Protection
All information shared during counseling sessions is treated with strict confidentiality. The service operates in full compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR - EU 2016/679) and the University’s data protection policies.
This means that:
- Your personal data and any sensitive information disclosed during sessions are securely protected.
- No information will be shared with third parties without your explicit consent, unless required by law or in cases of serious risk.
- The University and Aretaieio Hospital are committed to safeguarding your privacy and ensuring transparency in how your data is handled.
