Starting medical school in a new country is an exciting experience — but it also comes with plenty of questions. Where should you go? How do you get around Athens? What does student life cost? And how do you start feeling at home in a new city?

The Medical Degree English Program of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens has created a new Survival Guide, designed to help international students navigate both university life and everyday life in Athens from day one.

More than an academic guide, it offers a practical and student-friendly introduction to living, studying and experiencing Athens. From getting around the city and managing a student budget to exploring different neighbourhoods, understanding Greek culture and adapting to the Athenian climate, the guide brings together useful information for students beginning their new journey.

It also introduces students to NKUA and the Medical Degree English Program, a six-year Medical Degree taught entirely in English, while highlighting the clinical experience offered through the University’s network of 16 University Hospitals.

Students will find practical tips on public transport, food and everyday expenses, Athens’ neighbourhoods and coastline, cultural integration and philotimo, as well as important information on safety and emergency services.

Because studying medicine abroad is not only about what happens in the lecture hall or the hospital. It is also about discovering a new city, understanding a new culture and making it your home.

Welcome to Athens. Welcome to NKUA. Your journey starts here.
