The Medical Degree English Program of the NKUA School of Medicine celebrated the conclusion of another successful academic year with the Academic Year Closing Gala 2026, held at the historic Athens University History Museum in the heart of Plaka.
The event brought together more than 120 students, faculty members, administrative staff, alumni, collaborators, and friends of the program, reflecting the vibrant and international spirit that defines the Medical Degree English Program.
The evening opened with welcoming remarks from Professor Nikolaos Arkadopoulos, Dean of the NKUA School of Medicine and Director of the Program. Greetings were also delivered by Professor Konstantinos Tsioufis, Vice Dean of the School of Medicine, Professor Sofia Papaioannou, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, International Relations and Extroversion, Professor Efstathios Efstathopoulos, Vice Rector for Research and Innovation, and Ms. Androniki Logo, Administrative Coordinator of the Medical Degree English Program.
In his address, Professor Arkadopoulos shared a thought-provoking message with students and guests. Reflecting on the Greek word Aristeia (Excellence), he highlighted its close connection to Armonia (Harmony), emphasizing that true success is not measured solely by achievements, but also by maintaining balance, purpose, and well-being throughout life. Excellence, he noted, should always coexist with harmony.
The gala also provided an opportunity to acknowledge the valuable support of the program’s scholarship partners. Among the distinguished guests were Mr. Theodoros Karoutzos, CEO of Affidea Greece, and Ms. Angeliki Karava, Business Director of ISLE Academy (Innovation, Simulation, Learning Ecosystem), whose commitment to academic excellence and student support continues to create opportunities for future physicians.
As the academic year comes to a close, the event offered a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our students, strengthen friendships, and reaffirm the shared values that unite our diverse international community.
We thank everyone who joined us for this memorable evening and look forward to welcoming our students, faculty, and partners back for another exciting academic year.
